Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It’s that time of the year again when we here at Techgator get together to see which of our predictions were correct regarding Samsung’s flag ship phones for 2015.
Made entirely of metal and glass
Design is essential. Samsung finally seems to have understood this with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The S6 has a flat gorgeous 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display, metal frame, and glass front and back panels. Whilethe S6 Edge, has all of that along with a display that curves on both sides, though the curves are subtle and it leaves enough space on the sides for the power and volume buttons. They both feel different on the hand compared to previous Galaxy phones. No doubt, seeing how well received the HTC M8 was for its premium design, Samsung has followed the same route, and we love the results. It should be pointed out that the S6 Edge is the prettier of the two. One thing which we did notice right away is that the S6 looks quite similar to the iPhone 6 in many places, view it from certain angles and you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s an iPhone 6.
Impressive Hardware Inside
An octacore Samsung Exynos processorand 3GB of RAMwill make sure all your apps run buttery smooth, and give you a fluid performance. The phones come with 32, 64, or 128GB of internal storage, so you can choose the one you need. Both have a16-megapixel rear camera, which was exceptionally fast to open (with a startup time of 0.7 seconds),there is alsooptical image stabilization, which will give better low light pictures and smoother video when capturing footage while moving; along with a 5-megapixel front camera for those selfies we all love taking. The fingerprint sensor returns in the home button, but now doesn’t need a swipe. On the back is an infrared heart-rate monitor that Samsung says helps the camera obtain improved white balance; we feel that the monitor will be used more for this function than its original intent. Missing from the phones this time around are removable batteries, microSD card slots, and waterproofing, though we feel it would have been better that Samsung included these, we are overall impressed with the hardware.
Release date and Price
The phones will be available worldwide on April 10th. The S6 will be available in white black, gold, and blue, while the S6 Edge in white, black, gold, and green. Though prices have not been stated, the S6 Edge will be more expensive than the S6.
