Smartphones are an amazing creation. You can literally fit everything you need inside it. You want to hear music? Your smartphone can hold it. You want to watch videos? Surf the net? Read something? All of them can be done with your smartphone. For such a precious device, it’s a shame that we live in the constant fear of dropping our phone and breaking the phone or the display.
Motorola has come up with a solution to eradicate our fears. They have launched the first ever shatter proof display. The new Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is the first ever smartphone that will be using the Motto ShatterShield which will ensure your phones don’t crack when falling down. In fact, Motorola has gone on to say that your phone’s screen will be unbreakable for the next 4 years.
There have been many tests performed on the phone to see if their claims are true or not. I personally tried dropping the phone hard on the floor and to my disbelief or joy, however you may call it, the phone remained intact with no scratches on the display. Motorola has also showed tests where a vehicle ran over it and the phone still remained perfect. This is indeed a great piece of technology that could revolutionize the smartphone durability and thrust Motorola forward in the smartphone industry. The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 isnt all about the Shatter Shield, there are more features to it.
Yes, the shatter proof display is the main feature of the phone but it has a 5.4 inch display screen that has an AMOLED display. The screen has a resolution of 1560 x 1440 pixels thereby giving vibrant color and bright pictures. It also has an integrated screen protector to absorb all sorts of scratches.
Software & other specs
As it stands, the Motorola Droid Turbo uses Google Android 5.11 lollipop. The new updates, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is supposedly run in this phone but we have to wait a bit to actually see that. The phone uses a ultra-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. I felt the phone was very smooth and quick to respond to my commands. The processor will be a joy for people who like playing games on their phones.
The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 comes in with a 32GB version and a 64GB version. That’s not all, you can use an external memory card to expand your storage space. You can expand as high as 2TB. That is a huge amount of space. You could almost fit your entire life inside that much space.
In terms of camera, Motorola has gone all out to get the highest pixel possible. It has a rear end camera which has 21 mega pixels. However, I tried taking a few shots with the camera and I was somewhat disappointed with it. The picture quality is good but lacks the wow factor. Its average at best. It disappoints even further when taken to low lighting. The Droid 2 has a 5 mega pixel front camera which is good for skyping or video calling but I wouldn’t depend on it to take my selfies. The front camera does have its own flash which is pretty good. You can record videos in 4k video at 30 frames per second.
While the Shatter Shield is the main attraction of the Droid 2, the battery of the phones comes a close second. Normally, I judge a smartphone on their capability to provide different features but at the same time how they balance those features with the battery life. It is safe to say, the battery life of the Droid 2 has exceeded my expectations. It contains a 3760 mAh battery which can last for nearly 2 days. I have used the phone all day and the charge stays all throughout the day. It’s a great feeling knowing that you can use your phone all day and not worry about recharging it. This is perfect for people who are always on the go and travelling from one place to another. Its not all about retaining power but recharging the phone is amazing too. Thanks to the turbo charging feature of the phone, you can charge the phone for 15 minutes and end up with 13 hours’ worth of charge. This is fantastic for people who are on a rush and only have a couple of minutes to charge their phone.
The current price of the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is listed as $624. The price does seem quite expensive for something which isn’t considered as the Premium quality phone. However, when you think about it, you are getting the Shatter Shield technology which otherwise would have cost you a couple of hundred bucks to fix your phone. So I’d say it is a good deal.
I have used the phone and I can say that it feels great knowing that you have an indestructible phone in your hand compared to the regular smartphones. You can carry it around freely and not worry about damaging the screen. The phone is big, no doubts and it can be problematic for some people. The camera is also a big letdown. For something as advanced as the Droid 2, you’d expect the camera to be at least of decent quality. On the bright side, the battery is a huge seal dealer and guaranteed to pursue people who are always fussing about battery life. The interface is very smooth and you can use the phone with no lagging.
So, would I recommend people to buy it? Yes, this is the first ever shatter proof smartphone, of course this is a must have device. It is worth the investment.
